I'm Erin Scottberg, founder of
Full Sun Studio.
I started Full Sun Studio because I kept hearing the same thing: "I just don't have a green thumb."
That's not a personality trait — it's a mismatch. Wrong plant, wrong light, wrong expectations. The "green thumb" is actually an old horticulturist term for your thumbnail turning green from pinching plants all day. It was never about talent. It was always about repetition.
My job is to figure out what your space actually wants — and what you actually have the bandwidth for — and design something that works for both. That might mean a stoop full of drought-tolerant natives, a rooftop that finally stops looking like a sad balcony, or a houseplant collection you don't kill.
I hold an Horticulture Certificate from Brooklyn Botanic Garden, an NYC Street Tree Pruner License, and an NYC Master Composter Certification. I spent three years as Head of Content and Education at The Sill, where I oversaw the plant curriculum and served as a spokesperson. My writing has appeared in Real Simple, Better Homes & Gardens, Gardenista, Modern Farmer, Patagonia, and Popular Mechanics.
I'm based in South Slope, Brooklyn, and I work with outdoor spaces and indoor collections throughout NYC.
My Style
My approach is less "here's the perfect plan" and more "here's a plan that actually works for you." I ask a lot of questions and make a lot of observations before I make a recommendation. What's the light like? Do you travel often? What's your personal aesthetic — neat and tidy, or a little wild? 'The design has to fit your real life, not an idealized version of it.
I also believe the best outcome of working with me is that you stop needing me. I'm not here to create dependency — I'm here to build your confidence until you trust your own instincts. Most clients get there after just a few sessions.
